Our client is a leading civil engineering contractor with a strong portfolio of large-scale infrastructure and earthworks projects across the UK. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of upcoming work, they are now seeking a skilled Earthworks Site Engineer.

As an Earthworks Engineer, you will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of earthworks operations across a variety of construction sites. This includes cut and fill operations, bulk excavation, site levelling, and soil stabilisation. You will work closely with the site management team, design engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that all works are carried out safely, on time, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise earthworks activities on-site, ensuring compliance with technical drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct site inspections, surveys, and risk assessments.
  • Liaise with geotechnical teams to interpret ground investigation data.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular updates to the project manager.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Coordinate plant, materials, and labour for daily operations.
  • Assist with preparation of method statements, risk assessments, and quality documentation.
Requirements
  • Degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Geotechnics, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an earthworks or groundworks engineering role.
  • Proven knowledge of cut/fill volumes, compaction techniques, and soil mechanics.
  • Experience working with GPS machine control systems and 3D modelling software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  • CSCS card and SMSTS/SSSTS certification desirable.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
