General Manager

We are seeking a highly experienced General Manager to take full ownership of our sheet metal fabrication workshop. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires a strong, proactive presence on the shop floor. You’ll be responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of production—from planning and scheduling through to dispatch—while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency are met. Key Responsibilities: Operational Management * Oversee all fabrication processes: cutting, bending, welding, forming, and assembly * Schedule and coordinate workflow to meet delivery deadlines * Continuously improve production layout and efficiency People Management * Lead and develop a team of fabricators, welders, and machinists * Conduct performance reviews, training, and enforce company policies * Ensure clear communication across teams and management Machinery & Maintenance * Manage CNC plasma, laser cutters, press brakes, guillotines, rollers, and welding equipment * Lead preventative maintenance and machinery upgrades * Minimize downtime through effective scheduling and issue resolution Quality Assurance * Ensure products meet all specifications and tolerances * Implement and monitor quality control processes * Collaborate with QA teams and customers to resolve technical issues Health & Safety * Enforce HSE standards and safe working practices * Conduct regular risk assessments and ensure full compliance Cost & Inventory Control * Optimize materials usage and reduce waste * Manage stock levels in coordination with procurement * Track and report production costs and budget performance What\’s on offer: * Full ownership of the manufacturing day to day running * Salary £50,000 – £55,000 DOE and background * Company pension Wentworth James Recruitment Group is a specialist recruitment agency based in Cannock, Staffordshire.
