Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people with Autism and Social Emotional and Mental Health needs? We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at a specialist school for pupils aged 7 to 19 with Autism and/or Social Emotional and Mental Health needs. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students to support their academic, social, and emotional development, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the class teacher in delivering personalised learning programs tailored to individual needs.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with special needs, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Support students with their social and emotional development, using effective strategies to manage behaviour and promote positive interactions.
- Foster a calm and supportive atmosphere, ensuring students feel safe and understood.
- Help students develop essential life skills, communication, and independence.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and external agencies.
- Contribute to the development and review of Individual Education Plans and monitor student progress.
- Provide pastoral care and ensure the well being of students at all times.
About You:
- Experienced in working with children or young people with SEN, particularly those with ASD and/or SEMH.
- Patient, empathetic, and able to build positive relationships with students.
- Flexible, proactive, and willing to adapt to the varying needs of students.
- Strong behaviour management skills.
- Committed to supporting the academic and emotional development of students.
- Ideally, you will have a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent, though experience is just as valuable.
