We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Deputy Cook/Kitchen Assistant to work in a School in Southsea. You will be supporting the Kitchen Manager and the wider kitchen team in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals for the school community. In this role, you will have the opportunity to deputise for the Kitchen Manager/Cook in their absence, ensuring smooth kitchen operations and the continued delivery of safe and healthy meals. You will work in a commercial kitchen setting, following all relevant regulations and food safety guidelines. The role will include assisting with food preparation, serving meals, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting the overall operation of the kitchen. Key Responsibilities: ● Deputise for the Kitchen Manager/Cook in their absence. ● To cook and prepare cakes, biscuits, and desserts for a high number of pupils and staff, sometimes at short notice ● Assist with the preparation and serving of meals for students and staff, including packed lunches. ● Assist in preparing the dining areas by laying tables and ensuring the environment is welcoming. ● Serve meals and assist with clearing and cleaning crockery and cutlery after each meal. ● Thoroughly clean kitchen and dining areas at the end of each lunch period. ● Perform general kitchen duties as required, including food preparation, storage, and maintaining cleanliness. ● Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and kitchen policies. Skills & Experience: ● Experience working in a kitchen environment ● Knowledge of food safety regulations and hygiene practices. ● Ability to work effectively as part of a team and under the guidance of the Kitchen Manager. ● To be able to work in a fast environment with little guidance ● Good organisational and time management skills. ● Flexibility to cover shifts and assist with additional duties as needed. ● A positive, can-do attitude with a passion for food and service. Hours of Work: Monday-Friday 08:00-15:00 Salary: £14.50 per hour
