Google is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for the Cloud Incident Response team in London, UK.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership role overseeing projects, including 2 years in people management, supervision, or team leadership roles.
  • Experience with Cloud Services, Telemetry Systems, and Incident Response.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours in an on-call rotation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience in a customer-focused role or as a Cloud Customer.
  • Ability to work across organizational boundaries.

About the job:

Google's Software Engineers work beyond search, leading major projects and managing teams of Engineers. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will optimize code, manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and develop your team. Teams work across various domains such as information retrieval, AI, NLP, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, and UI design. You will guide teams operating at scale and speed.

The Cloud Incident Response team aims to provide a dependable experience for GCP customers by responding to and mitigating major incidents across GCP. Your role involves working on tooling, systems, and processes to support this mission.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in on-call rotation supporting Critical Incident Response.
  • Focus on high-quality customer outcomes and collaboration across GCP teams.
  • Create training and processes for incident management and partner with Cloud SRE UTLs and leadership.
  • Build systems and tooling to improve visibility, issue detection, and communication.
  • Define and escalate risks, and implement strategies to reduce incident probabilities.
