A forward-thinking and dynamic Primary School based in Warlingham are seeking to appoint an ambitious Learning Support Assistant from September. The role is a full time, term time and permanent.

THE ROLE

You will be supporting a year 2 pupil with special educational needs 1:1 throughout the school day. The ideal person for this role will:

  • Have a compassionate and patient demeanour
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong understanding of the needs and challenges faced by children with SEN, particularly those with Autism
  • Be confident and able to support with emotional regulation.

Experience of working with SEN children in mainstream school will be looked upon favourably and you will be part of a dedicated learning support team, managed by the School's Head of Learning Support.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The Senior Leaders are seeking a caring and child centred Learning Support Assistant who can:

  • Develop a positive relationship with the pupil and provide pupil with strategies for positive behaviour
  • Form positive relationships and liaise closely with the class teacher, parents and other professionals, to support the child's social, emotional and academic development and to provide feedback where necessary
  • Support the child with communication, social interaction, and sensory processing difficulties using a range of strategies to assist with emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to provide social and emotional support to the child during lessons, external activities and unstructured times of the school day.
  • Monitor and track the pupil's social, emotional and academic progress and update relevant stakeholders
  • Assist the pupil in the transition from a specialist setting, with regard to emotional support needed to adapt to a new provision.

CRITERIA FOR CONSIDERATION

  • Prior SEN Learning Support with SEN and/or ASD is highly desirable
  • A minimum grade C in GCSE Maths and English
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to undergo a new check
  • A willingness to learn, adapt and develop
  • To welcome challenges and be challenged
  • A child-centred approach
