Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for a Retail (& Café) Deputy Manager to join our team at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Infirmary Square, Leicester, LE1 5WW. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a salary of £24,023 FTE per annum.

As the Retail & Café Deputy Manager, you will help lead with the manager a passionate team of staff and volunteers who work hard to deliver outstanding customer service in Leicester Royal Infirmary. Working in a hospital requires a special kind of customer service. Your ability to communicate with a variety of people in a friendly and cheerful way will make a real difference to someone’s day. The key is to adapt your approach to each person to ensure their needs are met.
In this busy role, you will:
- Deliver exceptional shop/café standards and friendly, helpful and efficient customer service levels in the sites.
- Assist the Retail manager in the achievement of sales budgets and cost control.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory standards, policies and procedures including Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, Data Protection, Stock Control and other operating policies and procedures.
- Cascade regular communication and deal with employee/volunteer issues as they occur.
- Deliver coaching, mentoring and training to the team to ensure compliance with Royal Voluntary Service Policies and Procedures and the delivery of operational excellence.
- Co-ordinate the provision of volunteers and employees to meet the operational requirements through resource planning and support the recruitment of volunteers.
- In the absence of the Retail Manager, take responsibility for the management of the shop/café(s).
- Able to work flexible hours to fit with the trading hours of the sites.
Hours: 35 a week. This is a permanent, full-time role, working 35 hours per week, five shifts out of seven. Shifts are allocated on a rota basis, with hours between 06:30am - 8:00pm.

What you’ll bring as our Retail (& Café) Deputy Manager:
- At least two years’ management/supervisory experience.
- At a minimum, two years’ experience in a retail or café environment.
- At least two years’ cash handling experience.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Experience of using EPOS systems.
- Knowledge and experience of general administrative processes.
- The ability to use standard IT Microsoft applications and internet systems to a basic level.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good communication skills.
