Freedom Electrical Design is seeking a professional Principal Design Engineer (Overhead Line) to join our growing team. You will work on complex engineering projects supporting the country's Net Zero targets, covering the entire energy system from generation to end consumers. This role offers a pathway to become the Head of OHL Design within 1-2 years as the company expands. The position starts at Principal OHL Engineer, aligned with our organizational grading. You may work from our offices in Leeds, Stowmarket, or London, with options for remote work. Travel will be required for meetings and site visits.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and leading the OHL design team, attracting talent, clients, and opportunities.
- Managing all aspects of OHL design, including conductor sizing, insulation, lightning protection, routing, and structural analysis.
- Producing technical documents, reports, drawings, and calculations, ensuring standards compliance.
- Preparing project proposals, including scope, resources, costs, and schedules.
- Communicating company goals to the team and providing technical leadership.
- Coordinating project teams and supervising design projects through all phases.
- Reviewing final documentation for compliance and quality.
- Developing processes and mentoring team members.
Qualifications and experience required:
- Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
- NGED TP141 accreditation.
- Experience leading OHL design projects at various voltages, including steel tower and wood pole structures.
- Proficiency with OHL design software like PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.
- Understanding of CDM 2015 and electrical safety regulations.
- Full UK driving license.
