Role: Ward Manager: Priory Hospital Enfield - with close transport links

Type: Permanent, Full-time, 37.5 hours

Out of hours: On-call responsibilities, 1 week per month

Salary:

  • 1-3 years: £47,375
  • 4-6 years: £53,652
  • 7+ years: £46,000 - £53,000

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of 20 staff at full occupancy (60% HCA, 40% RMN).
Experience Required
  • Ward Manager experience, mature approach, ability to lead ward development.
  • Understanding of change management and transition.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and engage teams.
  • Experience working in a low secure ward.
  • Proven management of staff, including 1-2-1s, disciplinary actions, coaching, and development.
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse qualification.
  • Experience within acute or forensic services.
  • Background in Quality Improvement.
  • Knowledge of Safe Wards and reducing risk of restricted practice.
Job Purpose

To provide clinical management and leadership of the nursing team, acting as a role model and mentor, ensuring high standards of care and effective ward environment management.

Responsibilities
  • Effective management of ward resources, staffing, and skill mix.
  • Ensure clinical supervision, appraisal, CPD, and mandatory training for staff.
  • Recognize and reward positive staff performance.
  • Create a culture of learning, development, and professionalism.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, personalized care plans, and engagement with families.
  • Assess and manage physical healthcare alongside mental health needs.
  • Ensure ward procedures support safe and effective operation.
  • Contribute to recruitment and staff retention.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and effective communication.
  • Develop strong working relationships with colleagues.
  • Promote diversity and equality.
  • Handle clinical investigations, complaints, and HR issues thoroughly and promptly.
  • Ensure legislative compliance regarding Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberties.
  • Manage medicines and liaise with pharmacists.
  • Report and manage incidents, lead reviews, and debrief staff.
  • Engage with MDT for positive team working.
  • Deputize for the Director of Clinical Services as needed.
  • Participate in audits, induction, training, and recruitment.
  • Support external stakeholder communication.
  • Provide cover and support across the team and site, including on-call duties.
