Angel Risk Management specialises in underwriting products for the small to medium-sized sector on behalf of AXA XL – the global insurer that combines financial security with a nimble and empowered approach. The majority of Angel online business is underwritten either via the Angel Underwriting bespoke system from the Angel Chelmsford office or the Angel online quick quote system. A typical Angel broker would usually be a smaller and predominantly regionally focused broker, often individually owned. AXA XL provides property, casualty, professional and specialty products to industrial, commercial and professional businesses, insurers and enterprises worldwide.

As an Underwriter I, you will be responsible for delivering a profitable underwriting service to your clients. Your key tasks include:

  • Underwriting business within the agreed business plan and individual authority.
  • Supporting the business planning and forecasting process.
  • Monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits.
  • Maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Supporting the design and structure of risks.
  • Embedding an innovative company culture and actively working with IT and other Angel teams to ensure continuous development of efficient systems.

This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Reviewing submissions including applications, policy wording, loss runs, and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine the risk level for each account.
  • Calculating appropriate risk premiums considering inherent risk costs, underwriting, and general administration costs to ensure profitability.
  • Proactively advising, assisting, servicing, and following up with clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfil their insurance requirements.
  • Managing relationships effectively to initiate cross-selling opportunities and ensure account retention.
  • Controlling the timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
  • Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests for necessary policy changes.
  • Supporting business planning and forecasting; monitoring financial exposure and premium income within set limits.
  • Taking on a senior role within the team, collaborating with underwriters and management.
  • Developing, underwriting, quoting, and binding new and renewal business.
  • Handling referrals and complex risks.
  • Assisting junior team members and acting as a referral point for business outside their authority.
  • Handling broker queries efficiently.
  • Building and reinforcing partnerships with brokers.
  • Leading or supporting the development of new Angel products and propositions.

You will report to the Head of Angel.
