£32,337 per annum

About the role:

To lead and manage a team of Assistant Collection Managers to deliver documentation, packing, and decant projects as part of a major storage move project, with a particular focus on Oceania.

Key areas of responsibility:

  1. Manage a team of Assistant Collection Managers to deliver projects that move and improve care and access to collections in storage.
  2. Collaborate with the project team, curators, collections managers, and conservators to support planning and execution of documentation, packing, and decant projects.
  3. Provide expert advice and guidance to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  4. Contribute to practical design and fit-out plans for new storage facilities.
  5. Manage processes related to security, audit, and essential documentation of the collection.
  6. Plan, coordinate, and deliver training, including skill-sharing initiatives.

About you:

  1. GCSEs or equivalent qualification.
  2. Demonstrable interest in the British Museum\’s collections.
  3. Understanding and appreciation of materials and objects.
  4. Experience in object or art handling and collections care in a museum or similar environment.
  5. Ability to manage and motivate a team.
  6. Experience in budget and resource management.
  7. Excellent prioritisation, planning, and organisational skills.
  8. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
