Due to business growth, Black & Veatch are hiring a Senior Construction Estimator in our Glasgow or London, UK office. You’ll collaborate with your global peers in the US and India, with your focus on UK engineering and construction projects across our core solutions of EPcM, BESS, Grid, Hydrogen and Gas power generation. You’ll be responsible for the direction and preparation of lump sum, unit rate and cost-plus estimates ranging from simple cost analysis to definitive estimates in support of proposals, project controls and project change orders. Coordinating with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and other estimators to consolidate the final estimate and price to the client will be a key aspect of the role. As we continue to grow our EMEA business the role may include projects in other target countries (especially Spain and UAE) longer term. We work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week in the office, 2 days remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepares cost estimates on proposals, projects and studies and ensure that the content of the estimate is complete, accurate and meets the requirements of the estimate or project plan.
  • Plan, coordinate, review, verify and analyze all aspects of estimates and estimate presentation.
  • Helps in the maintenance of the Company estimating database. Coordinate and review the variable estimating factors in each area with Engineering Operations, Procurement and Construction.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to the Project Manager in the preparation of all levels of estimates ranging in scope and complexity from a simple factored or curve type analysis estimate to an extremely complex multi-million-dollar lump sum bids.
  • Appraises overall accuracy of estimates and recommends contingencies for estimates such as Lump Sum bids, Defined Estimates, and Interim Control Estimates.
  • Recommends detailed estimating procedures and techniques to be utilized in the development of the estimate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Substantial (typically 8+ years) construction related estimating experience.
  • Bachelors degree Construction Management or related field. Can be substituted with relevant experience.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Field/On-site construction experience with understanding of construction means and methods.
  • Electrical engineering background and/or knowledge.
  • Understanding of cost estimating principles/procedures and familiarity with FEED phased estimates.
  • Experience with estimated: hydrogen and gas plant expansions, retrofit or new facilities; Power grid and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) facilities.
  • Strong mathematical skills and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret and understand construction plans, specifications, and contracts.
  • Understanding of Estimating software tools (e.g., On-Screen Take Off, InEight, etc.).
