Overview of role

As an eCommerce Account Director, you will be responsible for coordinating and delivering your client accounts across platforms, operating as the main campaign activation point of contact for our clients. Utilising platform expertise and account management practices, you’ll ensure effective management of projects to brief, schedule, and budget. Ultimately, you’ll work to deliver industry-leading eCommerce campaigns that exceed our clients’ expectations. The role involves managing eCommerce Senior Executives and Executives, overseeing their work and development to successfully deliver to client expectations.

We are a team of 13 working on clients including (but not limited to) Adidas, Science in Sport, Suntory, Innocent, and Tempur. We are now looking for an eCommerce Account Director to join our growing community in the Essence MediaCom London eCommerce Practice.

Reporting of the role

This role reports to the Senior eCommerce Partner.

Measures of success

In three months, you would have:

  • Proven to be the day-to-day lead for client contacts as well as internal stakeholders.
  • Oversaw the team’s workflow management, from brief to post-campaign analysis, striving for operational effectiveness.
  • Ensured that client objectives and KPI targets are understood and optimized daily.
  • Proposed short- and long-term optimizations to develop the accounts and improve performance.
  • Challenged inherited ways of working with your own ideas for improvement.
  • Ensured excellent best practices and account hygiene using tools such as Pacvue, Amazon Ads Console, DSP, Vendor/Seller Central, Retail Media Platforms (Criteo, CitrusAd, Tesco Retail Media, Nectar DTP, Sainsbury’s Insight Platform), and digital shelf/content analysis tools (Profitero, BrandNudge, Ira, Helium10, JungleScout).

In 12 months, you would have:

  • Gained a comprehensive understanding of the clients’ business and needs, shaping the eCommerce strategy accordingly, incorporating industry developments and market changes.
  • Become an extension of the clients’ teams, providing added value for eCommerce and beyond.
  • Shown to be proactive and a driver who inspires your team members.

Responsibilities of the role

Specialist Performance

  • Responsibility for your team’s output, both client-facing and operational, and accountability for adherence to controls and best practices.
  • Strategic understanding of clients’ business and KPIs, keeping up with industry news and proactively spotting trends, product releases, and opportunities.
  • Maintain a forward-thinking and innovative approach in developing all activity.

Team Leadership

  • Develop strong relationships with your clients and key suppliers, leading team communications with stakeholders.
  • Be able to communicate effectively on subject matters (even outside your remit) and provide useful insights.
  • Take responsibility for your team’s development and career progression within the agency.
  • Participate actively in recruitment and interviews to build strong teams.

External and Internal Communication

  • Lead communication with client contacts, media partners, and internal stakeholders, with support from the Senior Associate Director when needed.
  • Develop strong relationships with your clients and key suppliers, fostering good working relationships to facilitate flawless execution.

Process and Systems

  • Drive process automation through technology adoption and efficient working methods.
  • Lead application and adherence to all activation-related finance processes.
  • Contribute to strategic revenue and service development opportunities.

What you will need

  • Deep understanding of eCommerce campaign setup, management, optimization, and reporting across media owner and vendor platforms.
  • Excellent knowledge of the strategic and tactical application of eCommerce and digital marketing.
  • Proven project management, leadership, and people management experience.
