Sales and Trading Solicitor (Fixed Income)

Role and Responsibilities

Jefferies are looking to hire a mid-level solicitor, ideally with broad fixed income experience gained either in-house or private practice. They may be US, UK and/or Commonwealth qualified. The role will be based in London reporting to the Head of Sales & Trading Legal, EMEA and Asia.

The successful candidate will provide support to Jefferies’ Fixed Income businesses including DCM, Private Placements, Loan and claims trading, EM, CLOs and ABS desks with focus on bespoke, structured or cross border transactions. Support is also provided to Risk, Operations, Compliance and Treasury as and when required. The role will be broad and varied and will involve reviewing and negotiating engagement letters, term sheets, offering and issuance documents, placement agreements, subscription agreements, credit and security agreements, trade confirmations, assignment, purchase & sale and transfer agreements, fee letters, highly confident letters and non-reliance letters. Depending on the matter the candidate should expect to work independently or together with and supporting senior members of the team.

Person Specification

Relevant experience in the UK practice of a leading international law firm or financial institution will be an advantage, however, the candidate need not have direct experience in all areas listed above but should be a lateral thinker, enthusiastic and keen to learn and step outside their comfort zone. The Legal team sit on the trading floor which is a fast-paced environment which requires the confidence and technical knowledge to respond quickly. • Be prepared to be responsible for a wide variety of enquiries and matters and be able to juggle and prioritise a demanding workload;
• Be able to provide advice in a concise and timely manner to senior and junior members of the business teams;
• Have a sound commercial head and an instinctive ability to get to the heart of issues as they present themselves;
• Be comfortable negotiating with external counterparties.
