About The Role My client is looking for a Senior Private Sector Housing Officer to contribute to improving the quality of the private sector housing stock and ensure the sector is able to fulfil its potential in meeting housing need in the Borough. You will contribute directly towards the improvement of private sector dwelling conditions across the Borough through a variety of informal and formal enforcement action and policy development. You will work as a senior member of a team in investigating & resolving housing condition complaints and reports of sub-standard houses of multiple occupation in accordance with the Housing Act 2004, Housing Health and Safety Rating System and council policy & procedures. Responsibilities To implement the requirements of the Housing Act 2004 and the Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation (England) Regulations 2006 in respect of the Mandatory, Additional, and Selective Licensing Schemes within the Borough. To lead investigations into reports of poor housing conditions in HMOs and monitor compliance with the council’s adopted housing standards & against national legislation (HHSRS & Housing Management Regulations) and take enforcement action as required. Improve the housing, health, safety and living conditions in the private rented and owner-occupied sector; through advice, regulation, enforcement; and by leading on key projects, to support the Council’s manifesto commitments, as appropriate. Deliver a responsive service that meets the needs of residents and supports landlords to comply with their legal duties when renting out residential properties in the borough and to deliver team/corporate tasks and workstreams, as required. Requirements A formal qualification in Environmental Health, Building Surveying, Construction, or a similar field. Substantial experience in this field may substitute for a formal qualification in certain circumstances, at the discretion of the council. A recognised HHSRS enforcement training course. Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to Private Sector Housing, requirements of the Housing Act 2004 and how they affect Houses in Multiple Occupation. Experience of inspection of residential properties, including multi-occupied for disrepair and fire precaution issues. Contract Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (All shifts on site/ in office) Inital 3 month contract with the opportunity to extend PAYE via Umbrella DBS will be processed for this position This position closes 05/12/24 If you are interested in this position APPLY NOW
