How does this role contribute to our collective success? The Actuarial Pricing department is responsible for developing consistent and market-leading pricing practices within the AXIS Insurance segment and is accountable for Technical Price Modelling, Product Monitoring, Profitability Studies, New Business Due Diligence, Business Planning, and Price Monitoring to support the underwriting teams.
As a member of the actuarial team supporting the International Professional Lines and Casualty business units (subject premium $600m+), this individual will directly contribute toward advancing the pricing and analytical capabilities of the Professional and Casualty Lines practice. They will engage proactively with the underwriting and actuarial management teams to design and maintain models that improve risk selection, pricing sophistication, and portfolio mix. This individual will be a contributor to the wider Global Professional and Casualty Lines pricing practice and will be embedded with supporting the underwriting functions for the business units. They will take on leading roles in workstreams, project management and communication with business leads. They will proactively engage with Reserving, Risk Management, Finance, Claims, and Data & Analytics colleagues to achieve desired business outcomes and implement business strategies.
What will you do in this role? The pricing team within the International Division at AXIS Insurance has responsibility for the following:
- Lead actuarial workstreams, projects and communication with business heads.
- Work closely with underwriters to develop rating models and methods, communicating, and explaining the output from pricing tools, and reviewing the pricing and structure of individual deals (usually larger and/or more bespoke risks).
- Align the pricing process with improved capture and modelling of policy exposures to assess aggregations of risk and better inform the technical rating process.
- Conducting detailed segmental reviews within classes of business to objectively assess profitability; provide evidence-based conclusions and recommendations for strategic changes, underwriting actions and portfolio optimisation.
- Monitoring the execution of underwriting changes and assessing the impact of these on the account's profile and emerging claims experience.
- Maintain the feedback loop (control cycle) and provision of information and analysis between the pricing, reserving and business planning processes.
- Quantify the technical adequacy of rates required to meet returns on capital.
- Evaluating the impact of market conditions and rate change.
- Analysis and research into the rating environment and market behaviour within key business lines.
- Input into the business planning process for the AXIS Group and legal entities - primarily to determine gross of reinsurance loss picks, but also to inform assumptions around the efficacy of, and recoverability from, different outwards reinsurance programme structures.
- Work with capital modelling team to improve underwriting risk parameterisation and methodology used in capital model.
- Assist and support the planning process with detailed analysis.
- Assist and support with case pricing.
- Assist with our reinsurance data submission.
- Assist with any other ad-hoc queries that support to the business to reach its desired aims.
- Mentor and guide junior members of the actuarial team.
About You:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to establish credibility with senior underwriters, business unit leaders and divisional leadership.

- Self-starter, proactive and a quick learner with strong numeracy skills.
- Willing to question and investigate.
- Reasonable understanding of the standard reserving and pricing methods used in the London Market, how the market operates and the key issues and trends.
- Keen to further technical and market knowledge through own research and CPD.
- Strong data analytical skills – such as data checking, cleaning, understanding, manipulating.
- Competent user of SQL, VBA, Excel, Word, Powerpoint. Programming skills in automation, database management and statistical packages will be a strong advantage.

What you need to have:
- 4+ years experience in a General Insurance actuarial role; consultancy or company.
- Nearly/ Newly Qualified Actuary – FIA, FCAS, FIAA, FSAI.
- First class or 2:1 University degree.
What we prefer you to have:
- London Market background preferential, ideally experience with Professional Lines or Casualty Lines.
