Overview

MCS Group is proud to be working with a global technology-led organisation to recruit a General Counsel for their growing Belfast office. This is a senior, strategic legal position covering a broad range of responsibilities across commercial contracting, compliance, data protection, and IP. The role provides an exciting opportunity to influence legal and operational decision-making in a fast-paced, international business environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Contracts: Lead the review, negotiation, and approval of customer, OEM, supplier, and partner contracts.
  • Legal Advisory: Provide in-house legal advice across areas including employment, litigation, property leases, and corporate governance.
  • Compliance & GDPR: Oversee GDPR and data privacy compliance across the organisation and support the Information Security Group.
  • IP Management: Protect and manage intellectual property including trademarks, software licensing, and confidential information.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify legal risks and support senior stakeholders with pragmatic, solution-oriented advice.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor in Northern Ireland, UK, or equivalent jurisdiction.
  • Extensive experience in commercial legal roles, ideally in-house.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, data protection (GDPR), and intellectual property.
  • Ability to manage multiple legal disciplines and work independently.
  • Confident communicator with sound judgment and business acumen.

Desirable Attributes

  • Background in technology or software sectors.
  • Experience dealing with international legal matters or cross-border transactions.
  • Prior experience working as sole legal counsel or in a lean legal team.
