Role Overview
The Production Operations Director will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team at Illusion, responsible for overseeing all aspects of workshop operations, production timelines, and schedules. This role will lead multiple departments including metal work, carpentry, scenic art, and workshop, ensuring high-quality output while maintaining efficient operations and strong team leadership and collaboration. Strategic oversight of the master schedule will be essential, guiding resource management, freelance staffing, and the oversight of any subcontracting. Success in this position requires strong organisational and communication skills, as well as the ability to upskill and mentor others.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic plans for workshop operations that align with company goals and growth objectives.
- Oversee all workshop operations including metal work, carpentry, scenic art, and general workshop activities.
- Participate in SLT meetings and contribute to company-wide strategic decisions.
- Create and maintain production standards and quality control processes.
- Drive continuous improvement in workshop efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure the company values of growth and staff development are upheld by your team.
- Develop and maintain production schedules and resource allocation plans predicting shortfalls and pinch points well in advance and respond accordingly.
- Implement and maintain quality control systems across all workshop functions.
- Manage workshop capacity and resource planning.
- Ensure health and safety compliance across all workshop areas.
- Monitor and control operational costs and budgets.
- Collaborate with Project Management Director to ensure aligned delivery approaches.
- Manage resource allocation across projects.
- Identify and resolve production bottlenecks and challenges.
- Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout project life-cycle.
- Provide leadership and direction to workshop department heads.
- Inform and support recruitment efforts for workshop teams in collaboration with HR.
- Develop comprehensive skills matrices to identify talent gaps.
- Create succession planning strategies for key workshop positions.
- Establish mentorship programs between senior and junior staff.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Develop and implement training programs for workshop teams.
