About the School
This specialist school based in East London are looking for a special needs Therapeutic Education practitioner with experience of working with challenging children and young people. This is a specialist PRU school that caters for young people who have been excluded or at risk of being excluded from a mainstream school.
Role and Environment
T herapeutic Education practitioners will have the opportunity to work in this outstanding school with an international reputation in special education expertise, curriculum and resources. Therapeutic Education practitioners must have experience working with mental health problems and complex SEN needs. This school believes that all young people should be provided with appropriate education in a safe, stable, containing learning environment. Special needs Therapeutic Education practitioners will be working with secondary aged pupils who have SEMD, SEBD and troubled behaviour. Some students are academic and they range from KS2 to KS4. Therapeutic Education practitioners are given opportunities to succeed through the use of highly personalised individual education plans to help support their students. The Therapeutic Education Department works closely with the nurses, doctors and therapists at the centre and with a wide range of professionals in the community.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to define appropriate activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum.
- Assess children who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual pupils\’ special needs.
- Liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists.
- Be able to teach/cover a range of lessons when needed and maintain excellent behaviour management.
- Build positive relationships with young people and staff.
- Work with students who have SEMH within a Special Needs environment and with secondary aged pupils.
