Our client, an experienced road transport engineering company, is seeking a Trailer Fitter to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assembling, maintaining, repairing, and sometimes modifying trailers used for transporting goods. This can include commercial truck trailers, utility trailers, or even agricultural and construction equipment trailers.
Role: Trailer Fitter
Hours: Monday to Friday 7am - 5pm, every other Saturday 7am - 3pm
Location: Castle Donington
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical issues on trailers.
- Perform routine maintenance such as brake checks, suspension adjustments, and lighting repairs.
- Weld and fabricate metal parts for trailer frames and bodies if needed.
- Replace worn or damaged parts (e.g., axles, brakes, tires, wiring).
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
- Collaborate with other mechanics, drivers, or customers for effective repair planning.
Requirements:
- Experience in trailer or HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of braking systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, and welding.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent (preferred).
- Valid driver's license (Class 1 or 2 an advantage in some roles).
