An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of a developing building portfolio, on behalf of a progressive public transport agency committed to zero-emission transit solutions. This role will be pivotal in delivering high-risk, high-impact infrastructure projects involving hydrogen storage, refueling systems, and operational facilities for a future-ready bus fleet. The successful candidate will be responsible for steering multiple projects from inception through to construction and final handover, managing complex regulatory approvals, and integrating technical, maintenance, and operational requirements into the design and delivery process. Given the technical and legislative challenges posed by hydrogen infrastructure, candidates must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of risk, stakeholder management, and project governance within a regulatory framework. We welcome applicants from both consultancy and contracting backgrounds with a proven track record of delivering complex building schemes aligned with the RIBA Plan of Work and administered under NEC Forms of Contract.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of the projects, ensuring alignment with programme, cost, and quality benchmarks.
- Manage planning, procurement, and delivery in accordance with the RIBA Plan of Work and NEC contracts.
- Drive regulatory engagement, securing necessary approvals for hydrogen storage, handling, and safety compliance.
- Oversee coordination of technical infrastructure including fuel storage, refueling facilities, bus maintenance workshops, and support systems.
- Manage risk and proactively mitigate delays related to technical complexity, stakeholder requirements, or supply chain constraints.
- Act as client representative, chairing project meetings, leading design reviews, and coordinating with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure that operational, maintenance, and health and safety considerations are fully integrated into design and delivery.
- Report on project performance, budget, and programme progress to senior leadership and funding stakeholders.
Candidate Profile:
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related discipline.
- Proven experience delivering capital infrastructure projects from feasibility to handover.
- Strong working knowledge of the RIBA Plan of Work and delivery under NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
- Demonstrated experience in complex regulatory environments, ideally involving hazardous materials or transport systems.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working with government agencies, contractors, and technical consultants.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and leadership capabilities.
