Our client is a specialist groundworks and formwork contractor, with expertise in Groundworks, Waterproof Basement Structures, and Concrete Frame construction.

Due to continued growth and an increase in workload, they are looking to expand their team. This opportunity is open to:

  • A recent graduate who is eager to learn, grow within the business, and gradually take on more responsibility, or
  • An individual with a couple of years' experience as an Assistant or Junior QS.

The successful candidate will support the current Quantity Surveyor in managing the existing workload. You will assist with day-to-day tasks and responsibilities, with full training and supervision provided to ensure your development and success in the role.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in preparing accurate cost estimates for groundworks, formwork, waterproof basements, and concrete frame structures, ensuring alignment with project specifications and budgets.
  • Aid in the procurement process by obtaining quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, and assist in the preparation of tender documents and contracts.
  • Support in managing contracts, including preparing interim valuations, assessing variations, and assisting in the preparation of final accounts.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, measure work completed, and ensure compliance with contract specifications and quality standards.
  • Monitor project costs, identify potential cost overruns, and assist in implementing corrective actions. Prepare regular financial reports for senior management.
  • Assist in managing subcontractor relationships, ensuring timely payments, and addressing any issues related to subcontracted work.
  • Identify potential risks to project timelines and budgets, and assist in implementing mitigation strategies. Ensure all activities comply with relevant regulations and company policies.

Role Requirements

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying is essential.
  • Ideally some experience in groundworks or the construction industry as a whole.
  • Must hold a Full UK Driving License and be willing to travel to sites as required.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office; familiarity with construction cost estimating software is beneficial.
  • Some exposure to managing project costs or budgets is desirable but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and engage with clients.
  • A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn, take initiative, and grow within the role.
