Our client is a respected and expanding accountancy practice in the Midlands, employing around 30-35 staff. They provide a full suite of services including accounts preparation, audit, tax, and VAT to a varied SME client base. With a practical and collaborative working environment, the firm is now looking to appoint an Accounts and Audit Senior / Assistant Manager to support continued growth.

This is a 50:50 split role between accounts preparation/tax and statutory audit. The ideal candidate will come from a small to mid-sized firm background, with 3-5 years' experience and confidence in handling SME clients across a range of sectors.

Job Overview
  • Accounts & Tax:
    • Prepare year-end statutory accounts for SMEs
    • Complete and submit corporation tax returns (CT600)
    • Prepare and review VAT returns and personal tax returns (Self-Assessment)
    • Produce management accounts and assist with bookkeeping tasks
    • Review junior staff work and support client queries
  • Audit:
    • Lead and assist on audit planning and fieldwork
    • Prepare and maintain audit files and working papers
    • Liaise with clients and internal teams to resolve audit queries
    • Supervise and support junior team members during audits
Job Requirements
  • 3-5 years' experience in UK Accounting Practice
  • ACA/ACCA qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Experience with accounts prep, VAT, tax, and audits for SMEs
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Software proficiency (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, IRIS, Sage)
  • Candidates must not require sponsorship.
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 (DOE). Top end of the bracket for the Assistant Manager level overseeing a team.
  • Working Hours: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (37.5 hours/week)
  • Holiday Package: 20 days + 8 bank holidays (holiday buy-in scheme also available)
