We are seeking a compassionate and dynamic Behaviour Mentor to join our team and work with students who experience SEMH challenges. As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting students in managing their emotions and behaviour, helping them to engage with learning, and fostering their social and emotional development. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to create and implement behaviour support plans that allow each student to thrive in a positive and structured environment. Monday-Friday 8:45-16:00Key Responsibilities: Behaviour Support: Provide one-to-one and group support to students with SEMH needs to help them regulate their behaviour, develop coping strategies, and improve their emotional well-being. Personalised Interventions: Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to create and implement behaviour plans tailored to the individual needs of students. Emotional and Social Development: Support students in building positive relationships, developing social skills, and increasing emotional resilience. Positive Reinforcement: Use positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate behaviour and recognise achievements, fostering a sense of accomplishment and self-esteem. Monitoring and Reporting: Observe and monitor student behaviour, providing regular feedback to staff and parents, and contributing to the assessment of progress. Crisis Management: Respond to behavioural incidents as they arise, using de-escalation strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff. Collaboration: Work alongside teachers, SENCO, and external agencies to ensure an integrated approach to behaviour support. Promote Inclusion: Help create a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where all students feel valued and supported.Key Skills and Qualifications: Experience working with children and young people with SEMH needs or other behavioural challenges. Understanding of SEMH, its impact on learning, and effective behaviour management strategies. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students and staff. Ability to remain calm and use de-escalation techniques in stressful situations. Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to behaviour management. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to adapt to a changing and dynamic environment. A collaborative approach to working with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.Desirable Skills: Previous experience in an SEMH school or similar setting. Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or social work (e.g., Teaching Assistant qualification, Youth Worker qualification, or similar). Training in behaviour management techniques (e.g., Team Teach, Restorative Practices). Knowledge of relevant educational frameworks and policies, including SEND Code of Practice. Ability to work with external agencies, such as social services or CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).Why Join Us?
