1. Planning and Design Oversight:

  • Review temporary works designs (e.g., shoring, propping, formwork) to ensure compliance with BS 5975 and engineering specifications.
  • Coordinate with designers, contractors, and the Temporary Works Designer (TWD).

2. Risk Management:

  • Conduct risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for temporary works.
  • Identify hazards (e.g., ground instability, load-bearing capacity) and implement controls.

3. Documentation and Approvals:

  • Ensure all temporary works have design certificates and are approved by a competent person.
  • Maintain records of inspections, permits, and handover certificates.

4. Site Supervision:

  • Monitor installation and dismantling of temporary structures (e.g., scaffolding, crane foundations, trench supports).
  • Verify that work aligns with approved designs and safety protocols.

5. Communication:

  • Brief site teams on temporary works requirements and safety procedures.
  • Liaise with the Principal Contractor and Principal Designer under CDM 2015.

6. Inspections:

  • Oversee inspections at critical stages (e.g., before concrete pours, after extreme weather).
  • Ensure compliance with LOLER 1998 (for lifting equipment) and PUWER 1998 (equipment safety).
