Our client is a Principal Contractor and a leading UK provider of design and build services within the rail sector. Predominantly working throughout the South East, they strive to provide uninterrupted, safe and high-quality services to its customers, including prestigious organisations like Transport for London (TfL) and Network Rail. They currently turnover circa £25M, however are part of a larger business unit that turnovers over billions and their services include civils, telecoms, signalling, maintenance renewal works and MEP.
Due to successful company expansion, our client is recruiting permanently for a Quantity Surveyor. Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager who has worked for the company for over 10 years, you will be responsible for managing costs with the goal of making as much profit as possible for the company on the projects you’ll be working on and ensuring delivery of payment whilst developing client relationships.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be accountable for managing up to 3 projects at one given time and key responsibilities will include managing day to day tasks to provide further commercial support to both project delivery and estimating teams within the company which can be broken down into the following:
- Assisting in the prompt presentation for all applications for payment and final accounts, including all contractual entitlements
- Assisting in ensuring that all payments are received in accordance with the contract terms
- Assisting in the preparation and presentation of monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR) and final cost/value forecasts
- Procurement, negotiation and the placing of sub-contract orders
- Assisting in the financial and commercial management of sub-contracts through settlement of Final Accounts
In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a minimum of 5 years experience in Quantity Surveying and proven experience of working on civil engineering infrastructure projects in the UK (Rail experience is preferred however not essential). You will be degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management and have working knowledge of NEC forms of contracts. Due to the office and project locations, you must hold a full UK driving license and reside within 1 hour commute from their office near Welwyn Garden City (hybrid working is available – 2 days working from home, 3 from the office / site). RICS accreditation is desirable however if not completed, our client can support this.
