The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

We are looking for an Impact Lead to join our team.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

The role reports to the Associate Director (AD), Strategy, you will provide support and expert advice to teams to integrate impact practices into their activities

The CEO Office is a central nexus for ensuring the organisation's resources, processes, and activities are aligned to deliver Wellcome's mission and strategy. It has a crucial role in developing Wellcome's strategy, related programmes and initiatives, and monitoring organisational impact.

What will I be doing?

Your role is to develop and implement comprehensive impact measurement frameworks to assess Wellcome's strategic progress and aid decision-making, while also providing support and expert advice to teams to integrate impact practices into their activities

As an Impact Lead, you will :

  • Develop and integrate an impact measurement framework with Wellcome's Strategic Programmes and major mission-related activities, while formulating reporting approaches for the Executive Committee and Board.

  • Equip and align Impact and Strategy teams to effectively collaborate with the Data & Digital team, ensuring insights from impact measurements inform future programme design and delivery.

  • Drive continuous improvement in impact practices at Wellcome by mentoring and incorporating the latest trends and insights.

  • Foster an inclusive organisational culture, manage and motivate a dynamic, high-impact team, and ensure alignment with Wellcome's values, budget, and governance.

  • Adapt to role changes as required to support Wellcome's mission, undertaking any additional duties as necessary.

  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

The ideal candidate possesses substantial experience in designing and managing impact measurement frameworks, particularly in science or health programmes, and excels in deriving insights from data analysis. They demonstrate strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality projects within tight deadlines.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Extensive experience in designing and managing impact measurement frameworks for science or health programmes, aligned with Wellcome's mission and strategic priorities.

  • Proficient in drawing insights from data analysis, demonstrating strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality projects within tight deadlines, manage budgets, and lead high-performing, inclusive teams.

  • Skilled in building strong relationships through excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills across diverse stakeholder groups and job levels.

  • Experience in leading work across teams, coupled with strong leadership, facilitation, and adaptability to changing priorities and challenges.

  • Self-motivated and well-organised, with a flexible, professional attitude, and the ability to work effectively in a matrixed structure and under pressure.
