Credit Risk Director - Trade Finance

I am supporting a major UK banking institution in their search for a Senior Credit Risk Leader to help build and lead a brand-new team in a high-growth area of the business. With plans to double the Trade & Working Capital book in the next 3–5 years, this is a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic journey at the heart of the bank's commercial strategy.

Responsibilities:

• Acting as the key link between frontline business teams and the bank’s risk function to deliver smart, growth-supporting credit decisions.
• Reviewing and signing off complex trade finance transactions – including receivables, payables, inventory finance, and structured trade lending.
• Designing and implementing best-in-class credit risk practices and governance frameworks.
• Mentoring and coaching credit professionals while building your own high-performing team.
• Using your deep credit and product knowledge to guide decision-making and lead change across product, policy, and operational areas.
• Representing credit in key forums and influencing how trade finance is delivered in a modern, risk-aware environment.

Requirements:

• Strong credit risk experience in trade finance – including open account, inventory-based lending, borrowing base structures, and financial institution risk.
• A deep understanding of credit models (e.g. PDs, LGDs), credit governance, and portfolio analysis.
• Commercial awareness and sound judgment in approving complex credit transactions.
• A track record of leading or mentoring others, and a passion for developing talent.
• Excellent communication skills – able to engage senior stakeholders and contribute to strategic decision-making.
