We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and experienced Family Support Worker to join our dedicated team. The role involves working with children and young people aged 8-18 and their families to prevent family breakdown and reduce the number of children entering care.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding position where you will provide direct, intensive support to families in their homes for 4-12 weeks (and beyond if needed). You will be a key part of a flexible crisis response service, working with families facing complex challenges, including:

  • Domestic abuse, mental health concerns, parental or child substance misuse
  • Child-on-parent violence
  • Neurodiversity and trauma linked to abuse, loss, or bullying

You will employ relational and evidence-based approaches such as Non-Violent Resistance (NVR), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP PACE), and Mentalisation therapy to repair family relationships and reduce conflict.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide weekly in-home visits to families, increasing frequency during crises
  • Complete weekly reports for each family
  • Attend statutory meetings and provide feedback on progress
  • Participate in a duty rota (1 day per week)
  • Work mainly within the South team, with flexibility to support citywide as needed

About You

To succeed, you must:

  • Have experience working directly with both parents/carers and young people
  • Be confident in high-pressure, emotionally complex situations
  • Understand and apply trauma-informed, therapeutic practices
  • Be a driver with access to a vehicle

Eligibility Criteria

Children must be aged 8-18. Be open to working within a statutory social work team. Support families to prevent care entry or assist in rehabilitation/transition plans back to family or friends.
