Morson is seeking skilled and enthusiastic Marine Mechanical Fitters to join our team at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical engineering projects across our diverse business areas, including Warships, Submarines, and our dedicated factories that support these complex undertakings.

As a Marine Mechanical Fitter, you will utilise your mechanical expertise to work on a broad range of marine mechanical systems and equipment. This includes everything from fluid pumps and diesel engines to high-pressure air and hydraulic systems. You will be responsible for interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications to install and align new equipment, as well as conducting system and equipment functional tests and surveys.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working on a variety of marine mechanical systems and equipment, including fluid pumps, diesel engines, high-pressure air, and hydraulic systems.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Installing and aligning new mechanical equipment.
  • Carrying out system and equipment functional tests and surveys.
  • Removing, installing, and overhauling marine mechanical equipment, with a focus on propulsion equipment, auxiliary systems, and power generation equipment.
  • Competently using general workshop machinery specific to mechanical fitting.
  • Adhering to all safety regulations and promoting a safe working environment.
  • Interpreting work instructions accurately.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience in the removal, installation, and overhaul of Mechanical Equipment, with a particular focus on Propulsion Equipment, Auxiliary systems & Power Generation Equipment.

Qualifications (at least one of the following is required):

  • Indentured Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline.
  • Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline.
  • Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification.
  • Time-served apprenticeship within a Marine/Naval Engineering Environment.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working within the marine engineering industry.
  • Relevant experience from other engineering sectors will also be considered.

The ability to obtain and hold Baseline Security clearance is a requirement of this role. 6 months initial contract IR 35: Inside.
