V&C Associates are partnering with one of the UK’s most successful London design studios who are looking to appoint a Girlswear Designer to join their team of designers working with major global accounts. This key position will be responsible for developing and designing capsule collections and the successful candidate must have a strong brand experience. As a Senior Designer, you will work closely with the design team to oversee and execute the entire design process, from initial concept to finished products. Your primary goal will be to deliver high-quality, fashionable designs that meet client specifications and align with current market trends.

Key requirements include:

  • Collaborating with the Head of Design in designing and developing collections from the moment of their conception up to the production process.
  • Carrying out trend research, attending trade shows, and going on shopping and development trips for inspiration.
  • Sourcing new fabrics, trimmings and shapes for your design ideas.
  • Participating in the selection of the colour palette, key shapes, key fabrics and key looks for the campaign.
  • Ensuring proper sample development, designing specs and supervising their modifications for production.
  • Liaising with national and international suppliers, as well as with the department’s buyers and merchandisers, for sample validation, purchasing and production.
  • Creating and working with prints & graphics and working with licences.
  • Maintaining a strong commercial awareness of current fashion trends to inform design direction and ensure product relevance.
  • Communicating daily with third parties, including suppliers and production teams in the Far East, to ensure alignment on designs and timelines.
  • Working closely with Account Managers and buyers to develop strong working relationships and understand customer needs.
  • Accurately translating creative ideas into commercial designs for the mass market, ensuring that all artistic elements align with business goals.
  • Travelling to the Far East and other production locations as required, fostering relationships with factories and suppliers.

What you need:

  • 5+ years’ experience in the industry working for a supplier, brand or retailer.
  • Knowledge and understanding of trend/materials and construction.
  • To be up to date with all recent social, fashion trends and emerging trends.
  • Good time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and work to multiple deadlines.
  • Comfortable working at a very fast pace.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Comfortable working with office programmes (Microsoft Excel, Word, etc).
  • To be motivated and develop innovative and new graphics.
