As part of a collaborative and innovative team, you will join a team of Network, Storage, Linux and Automation Engineers. The Datacentre Engineer is responsible for day-to-day Business as Usual moves, adds and changes, as well as physical incident response (often as "remote hands") and project work for lifecycle equipment replacement and new infrastructure installs.
As a Datacentre Engineer you will be responsible for:
- Installation, labelling, tracing and fault-finding of both copper and optical cabling and related equipment.
- Cable and Airflow management.
- Connection of all cabling (data, power).
- Ensuring datacentre works are carried out to a very high standard of quality.
- Following colleague instructions as "remote hands", or working independently, to identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Identify and point out areas needing improvement, maintenance or otherwise "at risk".
Requirements:
- 5 years of datacentre engineer/technician work.
- Expertise with optical and copper cabling, patch panels, horizontal (structured) cabling, patching and pluggable transceivers.
- Expertise in handling datacentre cabling.
- Familiarity with datacentre equipment handling tooling such as pallet jacks and server lifts.
- Demonstrable experience of cable management practices in a live datacentre environment.
- Experience working in a Change Managed environment, and with ITIL processes.
- Ability to work in a 24x7 live Production environment which cannot be allowed to have an unscheduled outage.
- Working at height using an appropriate stepladder, including working on up to 47U high cabinets and in cable trays above this height.
- Familiarity with datacentre networking is an advantage.
- Experience in replacement of disks in Storage arrays / Storage Servers.
- Must be confident with manual handling of server and similar equipment.
- Driving license; the applicant must live in, or be planning to relocate to, somewhere along the M4 corridor between Bath and West London. Occasional central London office days will also be required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
