We are looking for aPrincipal, Financial Planning & Analysis to support our senior leaders by providing high quality analysis and insight on performance for the Rio Tinto Group.
This is a great opportunity for an energetic, agile, performance driven individual who is keen to work in a dynamic environment. The role provides great exposure to understanding our business and support our senior leaders in understanding and driving performance across the Group, along with decision making.
Reporting to the Group Reporting Executive – Financial Planning and Analysis you will be involved in:
- Leading the monthly re-forecasting process and provide insight relating to the expected year end performance.
- Co-ordinating, analyzing and delivering insightful analysis and reporting on operational and financial performance for the Group to senior leaders (and external stakeholders) to drive performance and support decision making
- Partnering and collaborating with various operational and functional stakeholders across the Group to co-ordinate and deliver Group finance objectives
- Partnering with the future finance project team to convert files from our old system to our new finance system.
- Supporting ad-hoc review and analysis for various stakeholders including senior leaders, Treasury, Investor Relations
- Driving continued improvement in our Group reporting processes, including taking the lead on reporting enhancements as we transition to our new reporting system.
- Providing guidance and support to the business in the application of the Group’s reporting principles and policies
- No direct reports so must be prepared to get into the detail
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Strong financial acumen, with at least five years of relevant experience
- Qualified accountant is preferred with mining experience
- Effective analytical skills, attention to detail, with an ability to distill and communicate information and key messages clearly and effectively
- Proactiveness, flexibility and agility in your approach to working, with the ability to work under pressure and with conflicting priorities
- Demonstrated ability to work in a global business across organisational and geographical interfaces
- Ability to engage, collaborate and influence effectively with various colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation
- An understanding of Rio Tinto’s financial reporting processes and policies will be beneficial
- Advanced Excel skills and knowledge of HFM, Tagetik and Workiva will be beneficial

Where you’ll be working
Rio Tinto’s global headquarters is situated in St. James’s Square, in the City of Westminster, London, on the edge of the West End, and is the site of the group’s original head office. Located over several floors, the office is truly a global hub for the business and is the base for many members of the Executive Committee. As such, the grade II listed office reflects the vibrancy of the location, although it also overlooks the tranquillity of the only garden square in the district and is a short walk from Green Park and Piccadilly underground stations.
