Job Summary

The Team
Black & Veatch's Technology, Commercial and Industrial team is dedicated to meeting the fast-evolving infrastructure demands of the mission-critical sector, including the generation, storage, transmission, and distribution of secure and dependable electrical power. Our Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region provides our clients with feasibility studies through to full scale EPC execution level projects.

The Opportunity
Working closely with the service solutions lead and electrical engineering lead, you will be an integral part of the mechanical engineering group, aligned to Data Centre infrastructure projects. Strong collaboration and support from our global teams, with the opportunity to grow and shape the business in EMEA, make this a rare and exciting opportunity! This role is based in our central Glasgow or London, UK office. We work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week in office, 2 days remote from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to deliver detailed design of large-scale HVAC and plumbing systems
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Data Centre/ Mission Critical/ HVAC/plumbing design.
  • Provide guidance and insight into design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency.
  • Conduct field surveys, drawings, and other data to assess conditions of existing facilities and develop summary reports.
  • Prepare and/or review technical drawings to ensure that installations and designs conform to standards and customer requirements.
  • Review drawing and modelling production work, including problem analysis.
  • Perform detailed calculations as needed by the project.
  • Coordinate with internal and external clients to determine proper requirements for projects.

Profile & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in Data Centres, or the role may also suit someone with a building services and/or HVAC engineering background. You'll have strong experience in mechanical engineering with a proven ability to lead the work in this discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with codes preferably including BS EN 50600 and ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 90.4
  • Experienced with construction support and CDM regulations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency
  • Understanding of design differences in hyper-scale, edge, and colocation data centres
  • Proficiency in 3D modelling, AutoCAD/Revit/BIM and engineering studies software to perform engineering tasks
  • Familiarity with Data Centre tier rating systems
  • Knowledge of equipment, duct work size and distribution, installation, and commissioning and on balancing the system during the commissioning for proper operation

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or CIBSE Mechanical MEP experience in the UK (typically 8+ years relevant experience at this level)
Previous experience within Data Centre and/or Mission Critical Facilities infrastructure
Experience in UK Codes & Standards.
