Herd Manager – Chirk, Wrexham, Wales An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Herd Manager to join our dairy team in Chirk, Wrexham . Our Farm The Estate comprises 1000 acres of agricultural land, with our dairy herd operating on an organic system. The herd consists of 300 autumn block calving cows, who are milked twice a day through a 20/40 swing over parlour, with Auto ID and Auto Drafting. The milk is supplied on an organic Arla contract, with all our records and data kept up to date using Uniform. Our cows graze outside for as much of the year as possible and, in winter, are housed and fed on organic silage made on the estate. The dairy unit is part of a larger estate, which also includes a Beef & Arable operation, Forestry, Biomass, Sporting, Riding and its commitment to sustainability. We have started the process of monitoring the carbon footprint of our agricultural operation to ensure we are sequestering as much carbon as possible. Your Role Day-to-day running of the organic dairy farm operation – managing the dairy, milking and herd production in line with organic farming standards Keeping basic records and compliance up to date. Liaise with the Farm Manager to achieve agreed KPIs, financial budgets, and herd targets Management of the team when the Farm Manager is away, supporting with weekly staff rotas and training. Taking full responsibility for dry cow management, calving cows and colostrum protocols. Grass management and budgeting Maintain and build strong working relationships with landlords, vets and consultants. Undertake proactive management of health and safety standards across the farm estate. Ensuring the farm is kept tidy and safe to operate at all times Farm machinery and general farm maintenance.
