We are currently recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing e-commerce client based in Manchester, who are undertaking a major transformation of their data infrastructure. As part of this evolution, they are seeking a Data Systems Manager to design and implement a new data management system from the ground up.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of a major data transformation and build a modern, scalable solution from the ground up.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in a data-focused role with a strong background in inventory or e-commerce data management.
  • Hands-on experience building or significantly overhauling a data system or centralised reporting platform.
  • Proficiency in Python for data automation and transformation (e.g. pandas, NumPy).
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and relational databases (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Comfortable working with large datasets (CSV/Excel/API-based) and maintaining data integrity across platforms.
  • Previous experience working across e-commerce platforms and warehouse/ERP systems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

  • Exposure to BI/visualisation tools such as Power BI, Looker, or Tableau.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. AWS, BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • Understanding of API integrations and automated data syncing.
  • Knowledge of inventory forecasting or supply chain data structures.

The Role:

This is a pivotal opportunity to lead the development of a new, centralised data system that connects product, inventory, sales, and operational data across multiple platforms and systems. You'll be responsible not only for the technical architecture and development of this system, but also for leading a small team, implementing data best practices, and ensuring high-quality, accurate, and actionable data supports the wider business strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of a scalable data infrastructure to consolidate and automate product and inventory data.
  • Develop and maintain Python-based scripts and automation pipelines for data cleaning, enrichment, and integration.
  • Work closely with e-commerce, warehouse, ERP, and operational systems to ensure smooth data flow and real-time accuracy.
  • Line manage a small data support team, offering guidance, training, and process leadership.
  • Oversee the creation of dashboards and reporting tools to support business intelligence and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define data needs and align system functionality with business goals.
  • Establish and document data governance, quality standards, and continuous improvement processes.
