The Head of Energy and Complex Risk Claims plays a vital role in our growing Specialty, Property & Casualty London Market portfolio. This position oversees a diverse and complex claims portfolio across various classes including casualty, energy, marine liability, space, marine war, aviation (war and hull), political risks & credit, political violence & terrorism, product recall, and XoL classes. The role involves managing and developing a leading market team, ensuring a consistent, proactive, and diligent approach to claims management, adherence to guidelines, best practices, and regulatory requirements. It also includes working with Claims & Underwriting leadership to define strategic direction, providing insights on claims trends, and fostering a culture of diligence, curiosity, positivity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide proactive claim-handling guidance to team members regarding investigation, assessment, reserving, expense/vendor management, and settlement, in line with claims guidelines and best practices.
  • Monitor and oversee strategies on high exposure, litigated, coverage, and complex claims to ensure optimal outcomes and timely escalation.
  • Ensure the accuracy of financials related to claims and classes within your responsibility.
  • Conduct regular file reviews, participate in audits, and manage the team to ensure compliance with guidelines, regulations, and protocols.
  • Identify training needs and operational issues, proposing improvements to Claims leadership.
  • Present key claim issues, large or complex claims, trends, and product improvement suggestions to stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external partners to enhance business through meetings, thought leadership, and service excellence.
  • Assist with delegation and support International Distribution Companies as needed.
  • Promote a culture of positivity, inclusion, and continuous improvement to maximize employee engagement.
  • Mentor and develop colleagues, providing opportunities for growth and full potential realization.
  • Drive good conduct practices to deliver optimal outcomes for customers and policyholders.
  • Understand escalation procedures and responsibilities related to conduct risk strategies and governance bodies.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proven claims handling experience within relevant business classes.
  • Strong understanding of insurance principles, legal frameworks, FCA and Lloyd's regulations.
  • Familiarity with company procedures and organizational structure.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development.
  • Ability to identify risks and report significant changes effectively.
  • University degree and/or relevant professional qualifications.
