R&D Manager of a team of Scientists and Engineers in a Medical Device company. Working as part of a multifunctional team to develop, design and validate medical devices.

What will this role involve?

• To manage, motivate and develop the R&D team they manage.
• To develop and manage the R&D budget for the team.
• Development of new mechanical device adhesive and sealant products, from early-stage product concepts to commercial devices in line with the business strategy, Quality System and Development Process.
• Plan and execute projects, using agreed project protocols, to deliver emerging technology from specification to commercial handover.
• Ensure the R&D team have clear objectives to meet company needs.
• To create, review, refine product designs through DFM gap analysis.
• Maintaining ongoing compliance of R&D personnel, facilities, and activities with applicable regulatory requirements, standards, and company policies/procedures.
• Ensuring R&D personnel maintain Safety practices and GMP/GLP in company facilities.
• To ensure all devices developed have a maintained design history file and risk management file.
• To originate R&D documentation such as protocols and reports.
• To review and approve documents generated by the R&D team, when necessary.
• To generate monthly reports on project, resource, and budget updates.
• To keep all stakeholders informed of R&D progress and issues.
• To ensure the R&D team provide appropriate support to other department objectives.
• To analyse, mitigate and monitor project risks.
• Represents R&D interests at a senior level.
• Involved in strategic activities throughout the wider organisation.

What we're looking for?

• Educated to degree level in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
• Experience of managing an R&D team of scientists and Engineers.
• Ability to think innovatively to identify solutions.
• Experience of successful Design for Manufacturing.
• Demonstrates ability to apply regulations without guidance.
• Able to work collaboratively and effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Driven to achieve results, a 'can do' attitude and plenty of initiative.
• Good time management and organisational skills.
