Salary: £40,000 - £45,000

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that standards, specifications and guidelines pertaining to the Instrumentation and Control discipline conform to the requirements of relevant industry legislation, standards and guidance.
  • Effective prioritisation of operations support / own projects and tasks to ensure on time delivery and within budget.
  • General control of project work, including look-ahead planning, control of project budgets and schedules, change control, estimating activities, project document management and progress reporting.
  • Review of client’s specifications and other national / international standards to ensure project compliance.
  • Development of functional requirements specifications for control systems, SIS, F&G and instrumentation.
  • PLC, HMI & SCADA application software development
  • Participation in design reviews, including HAZOP / LOPA, hazardous area, etc.
  • Interfacing with client engineering representatives.
  • Participation in site commissioning tasks.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • HNC / HND / Degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, or an equivalent level of engineering experience in a similar role, is essential.
  • TUV Functional Safety certification would be preferred but not essential as a development pathway will be provided.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience PLC configuration and application software development. (e.g. ABB AC500-S / 800xA HI, Emerson DeltaV SIS, Triconex, HIMA F60 / HiQuad X, Siemens S7-Failsafe, Allen Bradley ControlLogix / GuardLogix)
  • HMI / SCADA configuration (e.g. Siemens WinCC / PCS7 / Emerson DeltaV)
  • Industrial communications
  • System architectural design and selection / configuration of appropriate protocols (e.g., Profinet / Profibus / Modbus TCP & RTU / OPC etc.)
  • The ability to conduct site surveys and brownfield verification of existing control systems and field instrumentation is required.
  • Experience in the planning and delivery of technical projects is essential.
  • Current UK driving license is essential.

Primarily you will work within a small team of engineers, contract support staff and admin team, in a friendly office environment located in Wimborne Minster, Dorset. Although office based, there will be occasional requirement to attend meetings and provide pre/post commissioning support for systems at customer’s sites. Site visits would normally be within the UK but on rare occasions may require worldwide travel. The role will manage PLC based system design and consultancy projects (circa £10K to £200K in size) from point of sale, through initial design and manufacture, to site commissioning. Being customer facing, great communication skills from a technical and commercial perspective, are essential. You will be responsible for a wide range of engineering design and project management tasks, with importance placed heavily on reading and interpreting technical documents to include industry standards, client specifications, P&IDs, logic diagrams. You must have an excellent standard of both spoken / written English, and be a confident user of general office software (e.g. Microsoft Word / Excel) for preparing various in-depth project related documentation (e.g. Specifications / reports / calculations etc.). In line with our design management systems, you will critically review, and mark-up documents / drawings generated by others, providing constructive feedback where necessary. Liaison with workshop technicians is required during the system build of your own systems integration projects. The systems are rigorously tested prior to shipment, so an ability to apply problem solving and analytical techniques, and to plan and carry out appropriate system tests is required.
