About the Company
With multiple global offices and UK sites, this business supplies innovative capital equipment to the labelling and packaging industry. They design and manufacture custom-built machinery, with a huge focus on quality, reliability, and long-term customer partnerships. Staff retention is genuinely exceptional – many have been there 20–30 years. You’ll be joining a large mechanical design department, split into smaller specialist teams, where you’ll collaborate closely with sales, production and R&D.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing modules and components using 3D CAD software (steel structures, machined parts, sheet metal for guarding)
- Creating layout assemblies, BOMs, 2D/3D drawings, and supporting documentation
- Liaising with the sales team to interpret customer requirements
- Working closely with production to solve design/manufacturing issues
- Supporting design for manufacture & assembly (DFMA)
- Producing drawings to support safety and compliance
- Participating in design reviews and continuous improvement projects
- Occasional site visits and involvement in bespoke designs
What You’ll Need
- 2–5 years of experience as a Design Engineer or Mechanical Design Engineer
- A recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering (HNC or above)
- Strong skills in 3D CAD – ideally SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Solidedge, etc
- Understanding of fabrications, assemblies, and production-friendly design
- A team player mindset with solid communication and organisational skills
- Bonus if you’ve worked with special purpose machinery or automation systems
