Contract Type: Locum (3 months, with a view to extend)
Part time: 2 – 3 days per week
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Psychologist to join our client\’s team on a locum contract for three months, with the possibility of extension. This role involves working within a therapeutic community in a Category A prison, providing specialised psychological support to individuals convicted of serious and violent crimes, including sexual offences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct psychological assessments using various tools and methods, including self-report measures, rating scales, structured observations, and interviews.
- Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals, contributing directly to patient formulation, diagnosis, and treatment plans.
- Implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations and maintaining provisional hypotheses.
- Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options, considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors such as historical and developmental processes.
- Contribute to a trauma-informed, psychologically-based framework of care, promoting psychological mindedness among staff.
- Develop specialised individual treatment plans for patients with complex psychological problems and those who may present a risk of harm to themselves or others.
- Manage the emotional impact of working with individuals in crisis, who may show high levels of arousal or be actively self-harming or suicidal.
- Work jointly with other psychologists and therapists to plan and hand over psychological assessments and treatments for patients transferring to other prisons or being released into the community.
Requirements:
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Previous experience in a forensic or prison setting.
