We are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist in heritage aerospace engineering, renowned for the design, manufacture, and repair of propellers used on iconic historic aircraft such as the Tiger Moth, Spitfire, and Mustang. Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to lead their propeller overhaul department. This is a rare opportunity to work in a niche and fascinating sector, supporting aircraft restoration and maintenance for customers around the world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of the variable pitch propeller overhaul process.
  • Disassemble and clean propellers for inspection.
  • Conduct visual inspections for wear and damage.
  • Accurately measure parts to ensure compliance with maintenance standards.
  • Identify and source replacement parts as needed.
  • Carry out zinc-nickel plating on applicable components.
  • Overhaul propeller blades, including sanding, painting preparation, frequency checks, and static balancing.
  • Assemble overhauled propellers.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation for each overhaul.
  • Supervise workshop assistants and ensure the overhaul area is kept clean and organized.
  • Support other areas of the business as needed, depending on your skill set.

What We're Looking For:

  • Solid mechanical engineering knowledge and hands-on practical ability.
  • Confidence in reading and interpreting technical manuals, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proficient in using precision measurement tools (e.g., verniers, micrometers, height gauges).
  • Conscientious, detail-oriented, and quality-focused - ideally someone who takes real pride in their work.
  • Self-motivated and keen to contribute to a growing team in a unique engineering field.
  • Aerospace experience is a plus, though not essential.
  • An interest in heritage or vintage engineering would be advantageous.

Position Remuneration:

  • Salary: £19.50 - £21.50 per hour (£40,560 - £44,720 per annum, DOE)
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:00 (40-hour week)
  • Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
  • Holidays: 28 days including bank holidays
