A leading law firm is currently seeking a Tax Assistant to join their established Private Client Tax team. The team, based in Edinburgh, currently comprises a Senior Manager and two Tax Assistants, working with a portfolio of high net worth individuals, private clients, trusts, charities, and estates. The successful candidate can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow with 50% hybrid working available.

The Role

  • Preparation of tax returns for individuals, trusts, charities, and estates.
  • Advising clients on tax returns, claims, elections, and liabilities.
  • Liaising with clients to gather necessary information and arrange timely payment of taxes.
  • Submitting tax returns and payments to HMRC within statutory deadlines.
  • Managing straightforward HMRC enquiries and assisting clients with settlements and refunds.

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Recent experience preparing and submitting tax returns for individuals, trusts, charities, and estates.
  • Knowledge of tax compliance requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Competence using tax software and HMRC online services.
  • Strong client communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to proactively gather required information and seek guidance where necessary.
  • Focused on delivering solutions that meet client needs.
