Environmental Health Officers – Food Safety

South London

Full-time and part-time hours available.

Buckingham Futures has opportunities for Environmental Health Officers specializing in food safety to assist in delivering inspections for a local authority based in South London. Immediate starts are available and will be paid on a PPI (paid per inspection) basis.

Responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out inspections, re-inspections, and surveys; responsible for investigation, enforcement, and managing a more complex workload.
  • Preparing and serving Statutory Notices and taking enforcement actions in line with the Council’s strategy and departmental policies.
  • Reporting and advising when statutory actions are not appropriate and initiating prosecutions for non-compliance with statutory instruments where applicable.
  • Consulting and negotiating with developers, landlords, contractors, businesses, and other clients to ensure casework progresses.
  • Carrying out site visits, surveys, inspections, and attending Public Inquiries, courts, and tribunals.
  • Preparing priced specifications, providing advice, and checking legal notices drafted by junior colleagues.

You should have strong observational and investigation skills and be able to carry out inspections, sometimes outside normal working hours. Applicants must have up-to-date food safety competencies to be eligible for this role.
