Reporting to the Head of Planning the Shipping Manager will be responsible for ensuring the right products are packed appropriately and delivered to or collected from the correct location in a timely and cost-effective manner, rigorously complying with Export legislation at all times. An understanding of packing and procurement is also important enable effective co-ordination and the ability to liaise with suppliers of raw materials and manufacturers. Provide support to various shipping activities to deliver products on time and in full to meet with external and internal supplier, customer and legislative requirements. Working with the Operations team and Project Management to continually improve cross departmental communication and effectiveness. On an ongoing basis, the Shipping Manager must assume full responsibility and will be held accountable for the following: Lead, motivate and enable the shipping team to establish and meet annual performance objectives which are linked to the business strategy and priorities. Lead and manage the Transport Management System (TMS) seeking the best solution for our customers based on cost, quality and timeline. Develop flexibility in your direct reports through regular communication with them to understand their career goals, interests and performance. Coach your team toward realistic career goals and development needs. Effectively communicate with your employees regarding their performance and proactively addressing any non-performance issues (working with Human Resources, as needed). Create and build a sustainable performance improvement culture ensuring accountability and execution. Lead by Example in line with Celeros Leadership competences to coach your employees to achieve high levels of performance. Supervise and manage all shipping related issues, incoming and outgoing. Supervise and manage all packing related issues, including loose gear. Proactively manage all shipping related issues regarding the importing and exporting of goods in line with the latest legislation i.e. timely clearing of imports, liaising with HMRC on any IPR issues, whether that is the original arrival of the goods, applying for any necessary time extensions, or the re-export of the goods, timely preparation of all relevant export documentation. Oversee and manage all ad-hoc requirement for shipment of goods direct from supplier to customer, i.e.drop shipments. Provide guidance to the organisation as to the most suitable use of HMRC authorisations to enable the company to remain fully compliant with all HMRC regulations regarding import, export and local UK vat compliance. Liaise directly with other departments and key internal stakeholders to achieve satisfactory service levels helping to ensure we meet the needs of our customers. Build and manage relationships with appointed freight forwarders ensuring service level agreements and targets are met. Support the European Transport RFQs held on a bi-annual basis. Plan packing and shipments of incoming and outgoing products/supplies; ensuring timely, efficient, and high-quality deliveries. Problem solve and determine root cause corrective action when out of standard shipping conditions occur. Ensure all shipping documents are filed for audit purposes and authorise freight invoices for payment. Provide support to Shipping Co-ordinators to ensure all Shipping processes and documentation are executed in a timely manner. Knowing about the health and wellbeing support available and proactively offering appropriate advice and following up on this; Effectively manage sickness absence, following company policy and seeking guidance from HR when required. Understanding the performance and development planning process; supporting and managing your people through the process Supporting your people throughout the year, through regular conversations, tracking progress against objectives and managing any performance issues Strong people management skills; proactively managing and motivating employees through positive engagement yet capable of giving critical feedback as and when required including performance and absence management. Able to positively coach and influence team to embrace change helping to achieve bottom line results and / or improve standards/ KPI’s. Ability to foster teamwork to drive results helping the organisation to meet and exceed its overall goals and objectives. Strong computer skills including expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. A good working knowledge of SAP order processing and dispatch systems is also required. A focus on delivery performance and cost management in order to optimize margin for the business. Proven leadership, management and communication skills.
