V&C Associates have partnered with one of the UK fashion's most reputable suppliers based in the heart of London who are recruiting a creative and talented Womenswear Outerwear Designer to join their team. Established since the 1980s, the company is known for high quality, innovation, and reliability with an excellent reputation with brands and retailers both nationally and internationally with continual growth.
As a key member of the design team, this role requires a blend of creative vision, technical expertise, and strong organisational skills to collaborate effectively with the design team, account managers, offshore product development teams, and clients.
Responsibilities:
- Create and develop original designs for high-street fashion brands, incorporating current trends and customer preferences.
- Work collaboratively with the design team to contribute to seasonal colour, fabric, and micro-trend development.
- Translate design ideas and concepts into sketches, technical drawings, and digital illustrations using design software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Partner closely with account managers and offshore product development teams to finalise seasonal collections and present them to clients.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, factories, and third parties across the Far East and Europe to ensure alignment on design goals.
- Assist in the selection of fabrics, trims, and notions that align with the collection's aesthetic and functional requirements.
- Provide indirect management and support to offshore development teams, guiding them to meet design requirements and timelines.
- Conduct tests on materials to evaluate performance, durability, and suitability for intended use.
- Generate detailed tech packs for designs, ensuring all specifications are clear and achievable.
- Collaborate with sample makers during the development process, ensuring prototypes align with design vision and specifications.
- Participate in fitting sessions, providing input on fit, comfort, and style adjustments.
- Monitor the quality of samples received, ensuring they meet both design and production standards.
- Collaborate with the quality control team to address and resolve any quality issues during production.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in design for high-street fashion brands, familiarity with current trends and consumer demands.
- Strong understanding of the fashion retail landscape, with the ability to create designs that resonate with target markets.
- Experience in generating tech packs and managing offshore product development teams, ensuring quality and adherence to design specifications.
- Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; knowledge of 3D design software is a plus.
