Our client is seeking a dynamic and commercially driven Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function of their road surfacing division based in Liverpool. This is a key strategic role overseeing the financial and contractual management of projects across the North West, ensuring profitability, compliance, and effective commercial governance.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading the commercial team in delivering robust commercial control on all surfacing projects.
- Overseeing contract negotiation, procurement, tendering, and risk management processes.
- Managing client relationships and ensuring contractual obligations are met.
- Producing and reviewing CVRs, forecasts, and financial reports to senior leadership.
- Driving value engineering and cost-saving initiatives across the division.
- Ensuring compliance with internal procedures and external regulatory frameworks.
- Mentoring and developing junior commercial staff to support succession planning.
- Supporting strategic decision-making at a regional level to improve project delivery and margin.
What you will need to succeed:
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering, highways, or surfacing.
- Strong understanding of NEC and other industry-standard contracts.
- Demonstrable leadership and commercial acumen within a fast-paced construction environment.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong IT literacy and financial reporting skills.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Full UK driving licence.
