This is a key leadership role within this leading transport company ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective transport operations while maintaining high service levels for customers. Key Responsibilities Operational Management Oversee transport operations , ensuring efficient vehicle utilisation and on-time deliveries. Implement and monitor KPIs to drive continuous improvement in service levels, fuel efficiency, and cost control. Work closely with site-based transport teams to ensure consistent processes and best practices. Lead strategic route planning and fleet optimisation to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Ensure fleet maintenance schedules are adhered to, minimising downtime and ensuring compliance. Compliance & Safety Ensure full compliance with all transport regulations, including Operator Licence requirements, DVSA, and Working Time Directive regulations. Promote a strong health & safety culture across all sites, conducting audits and implementing best practices. Maintain accurate records for driver hours, tachographs, vehicle inspections, and maintenance schedules. Manage accident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented. Lead, develop, and support a team of transport managers, planners, and drivers. Conduct performance reviews and provide training and development opportunities. Foster a positive working environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and high performance. Ensure effective communication between sites, management, and key stakeholders. Manage budgets, controlling costs while maintaining operational efficiency. Identify opportunities to improve profitability through cost-saving initiatives and improved processes. Monitor and negotiate with external suppliers (fuel, maintenance, subcontractors) to drive value for money. Work closely with customers to ensure high levels of service and resolve any transport-related issues. Develop strong relationships with key suppliers and industry contacts to stay ahead of market trends. Key Skills & Experience Required Proven experience in a senior transport or depot management role working for a 3PL or Transport business. Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation , compliance, and Operator Licence requirements. Experience and knowledge of pallet networks Experience managing large HGV fleets and drivers. Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a track record of team development. Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage budgets effectively. Proficient in transport planning systems and fleet management software. A results-driven mindset with the ability to problem-solve under pressure. Qualifications & Requirements CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Transport Management – Essential. Strong IT skills, including transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
