We are seeking an experienced MEP Lead with Healthcare Design Experience to join our growing Design team here at Unispace Life Sciences. This role is based out of our London studio, but we are happy to consider applicants based throughout the UK. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead the design, specification, and implementation of mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) building services for healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotech, and other regulated projects.
- Oversee technical design aspects, ensuring all MEP systems align with project requirements, relevant healthcare regulations (e.g., HTMs), as well as managing client expectations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers (structural, electrical), public health specialists, medical planners, and project managers, to deliver integrated and efficient building services solutions for healthcare environments.
- Manage resources, budgets, and timelines for assigned projects to ensure successful delivery.
- Conduct site inspections of healthcare facilities and coordinate with contractors to ensure work adheres to design intent, healthcare standards, and quality standards.
- Provide expert guidance on the integration of sustainable and energy-efficient solutions within healthcare settings, considering specific requirements such as ventilation and water systems.
- Support the preparation of proposals, technical reports (including compliance with healthcare guidelines), and presentations for client engagement within the healthcare and life sciences sectors.
- Stay updated on industry trends, relevant healthcare standards (HTMs, HBNs), regulations, and innovations, applying them to enhance project outcomes and ensure compliance.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their development within the context of healthcare design.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in MEP design engineering, with a significant focus on healthcare design.
- Proven experience in the design and delivery of building services for hospitals, clinics, laboratories, pharmaceutical facilities, biotech facilities, or other highly regulated healthcare environments.
- Strong understanding of relevant UK healthcare regulations, standards, and guidance (e.g., Health Technical Memoranda - HTMs, Health Building Notes - HBNs).
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar BIM tools, along with MS Office Suite.
- Experience in leading a team and mentoring more junior members, particularly within healthcare projects.
- Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clinical staff, stakeholders, and technical teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with a strong understanding of the specific demands of healthcare project delivery.
