The Senior Finance Business Partner for Technical & Operations plays a trusted advisory role providing financial expertise and strategic insight to drive the performance and financial health of the team. This role will partner with the Technical and Operations Directors focusing on car performance whilst leading a small team.
What you will be doing:
- Decision Making & Support: Earn a seat at the table by building strong relationships with stakeholders acting as a co-pilot to drive functional strategy and deliver performance. Proactively bring valuable strategic insights to enable exploitation of opportunities and risks. Navigate financial opportunities and risks by integrating into and having a good understanding of the strategic objectives, people and processes in these areas and working together to problem solve. Constructively challenge to achieve objectives, working with stakeholders to course correct when required. Critically appraise new initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders to develop business cases with clear measures of success. Actively drive training and self-service tools for stakeholders to enhance financial acumen and empowerment.
- Planning & Analysis: Support senior stakeholders in the preparation and review of budgets, rolling forecasts and long-term planning. Lead data-driven decision making through financial modelling, scenario planning and sensitivity analysis. Support Procurement with supplier selection, contract optimisation and financial modelling. Convert financial trends and analysis into valuable insights and actions.
- Cost Management: Optimise the value of spend restricted by the Financial Regulations leading efficiency improvement projects and prioritisation models. Challenge the status quo leading on cost cap optimisation initiatives to drive competitive advantage. Facilitate financial accountability throughout areas of responsibility directing appropriate governance and compliance.
- Performance Tracking: Provide meaningful financial reporting specifications for areas of responsibility and support with stakeholder understanding of these reports. Prepare and present monthly performance reports and variance analysis to senior stakeholders. Track and report KPIs to measure performance and identify areas for improvement. Ensure quality of data within finance systems including developing controls where necessary.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry-specific and finance developments and identify opportunities to enhance existing processes. Build out internal and external network. Identify manual tasks that can be automated. Drive post-investment reviews to ensure key learnings are passed onto future business cases.
- Team Management: Line manage, mentor, and develop 2-3 direct reports, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-performance delivery. Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining oversight of key deliverables, providing support and guidance when necessary. Act as a role model within the wider Finance team demonstrating core values and behaviours and advocating achievement and compliance.
Requirements:
- At least 6 years PQE relevant working experience, including some line management experience.
- Experience influencing C-Suite stakeholders across different departments in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Experience in a manufacturing and engineering environment is desirable but not essential.
- Able to communicate financial matters to the business with clarity and transparency demonstrated through strong presentation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to dynamic priorities.
- Commercially astute with a proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities and providing solutions for financial issues.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on detail, accuracy, and actionable insights.
- Able to provide examples where the status quo has been challenged and the positive impact or outcome on the business in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
- Able to demonstrate examples of leading on cost reduction initiatives and their success.
- Willingness to use the latest business intelligence tools (e.g. Microsoft Power BI) to interrogate data, problem solve and provide recommendations.
